The struggle to existence and identity crisis has been a common phenomenon to both men and women. However, women undergo a greater conflict as they have been constantly victimized in the male dominated society. The role of women is conventionally confined to the four walls of the house in raising the children and attending to the husband. This brought about a conflict between the duty to oneself and duty to others. Women were presented and treated as dolls in the real world as well as literature penned by males. The feminist movement was an attempt to liberate women from the shackles of stereotyped representations and bring them at equal front with the males. This awareness has brought about a change in the society; however there is a long way to go. Exploring ideas in this context may help to bring about new consciousness and contribute towards the cause of feminism and elevate the position of women further.
